Sincerest, heartfelt congratulations to New York Times columnist Tom Friedman!
Friedman faced considerable competition, but beat them all out, and today was crowned Atrios's Wanker of the Decade.
There's a lot to be disgusted by in Friedman's pronouncements, just in the content themselves. But what has always made it the moreso for me was the certitude with which he made them. Not just the famous "Suck. On. This.", but also the way he pointed out how significant the next next six months would be, completely oblivious to the fact that he was always resetting the clock to a new "next six months."
I understand how business works, and I understand celebrity, puffery, and losing all humility. But when it comes to important issues like war, lives, and invasion... shouldn't a human being with a soul find time to take a moment and review their behavior and wonder whether or not they've been making money by being an unreforming blowhard?
