Light shines into a canyon of loading docks and graffiti.

This is Franklin Place. To call Franklin Place a "Place," these days, stretches the concept of what a "Place" should be. By all appearances it's nothing more than an alley. But when the Dutch were here, Franklin Place was a quiet residential block where housewives bleached their stoops and cows wandered free; people shared pleasantries on their way to church. Actually, I have no idea why Franklin Place is designated a "Place." It's always looked like an alley to me. Tribeca, Manhattan.
