A statue of Pope John Paul II, with a staff that has a crucifix at its head.

A long time ago in a galaxy far away (1969, Queens), the Archbishop of Krakow visited a church in a Polish part of Maspeth, Queens. And a couple years ago, the block with that church, where the Pope-to-be visited, was given the honorary name "Pope John Paul II Way." The residents are very proud of this; a dozen homes on the small block had "Pope John Paul II Way" street signs on them; as in, DOT type street signs. (The church os off to the left, the brick building in the background is the rectory.) Queens.
